Fantastic Keepsake

I made birth announcements for my kids when they were born, but now they are saved in their memory boxes.  I have been looking for something that I could display in their rooms and that could also fit with their room's decor, so here it is!

No, my kids were not born on the same day, I've used random information for these frames

So, this is what I'd like to do for my fans!  For the first 10 people that subscribe to my blog, we'll create this same 5"x 7" image that can be printed and framed at home. Also, I could customized each layout to match your baby's room, don't forget to provide the colors.

What a fantastic keepsake!

Say Hello to Our Little Friend

For months Ben has been asking for a pet, so this past weekend we finally went to the aquarium and got a new Betta Fish!

Getting the fish bowl ready
Welcome home!

We had this bowl for about three years, it belonged to Stanley, Ben's first betta fish.

Bettas are nice pets to have, they are low cost and easy to take care of.  You feed them once every day and clean their bowl once a week.

Say hello to our little friend "Aries."

Locked Out! Really?

I never thought this could happen to us, but yesterday we closed the door assuming that one of us had the keys... and we were locked out!  I guess, if you don't take preventative measures for getting locked out, it could happen when you least expect it and it could be very costly!

Do not leave your keys behind!

1. We tried every entrance, but all the doors were locked, which is great, but not in this situation!

2. We tried to remain calm, it was hard when we were outside with two kids, it was getting cold, and our neighbors were out of town

3. We called a locksmith near our house and we got help within 25 minutes

The moral of the story, make sure that you have your keys with you before closing the doors AND make sure that your parents or siblings have a spare key to your house. It's quite expensive to hire a locksmith to open your door in less than 5 minutes!

DIY ~ Fashionable Key Chains

These will quickly become a favorite. Not only will you be able to find them easily in the bottom of your purse, but also you can also slip them on your wrist when your hands are full and you're trying to hold your groceries and a toddler.

Key fobs are wonderful and inexpensive gifts for teachers, teenagers, friends, or yourself. You can get a key fob on Patty's Collection website or you can make them yourself.  Today, I'd love to share how to make one.

For this project you will need:

1) 1.25" Key Fob Hardware 2) 1" Ribbon 3) 1.25" Cotton Webbing
4) Sewing Machine 5) Key Fob Plier Tool

First you need 10" ribbon and 10" webbing. Sew the ribbon into the cotton webbing and place the hardware at the end to close using the the key fob plier.

Here it is, a nice and functional key chain.

I made this monogrammed one for myself and some moms at Ben's school loved it, so I ended up making quite a few!  These can be custom made to match your school colors.  You can order online at Patty's Collection  and create your own, or you can send us an e-mail and we will match the colors that you are looking for!

These functional key fobs make great gifts for teachers, grandparents, moms, and just about anyone.

Hope you're enjoying your long weekend!

So Hard to Keep a Clean Car!

With two kids being towed everywhere, every day, it's so hard to keep our car clean.  When my friends see my car, I always tell them "My house does not look like that at all."  It's also nice to know that I am not alone.

So today as my OCD kicked in, I took it upon myself to detail the family car, or "family mule" as we call it.

These are the two things that I am going to keep in my car in an attempt to keep it cleaner:

- Wipes and a couple of extra napkins for spills
- A plastic bag for trash

I hope this works.  In the meantime, I am enjoying a clean car.  Next stop, after we come back from riding bikes... the drive thru car wash! It may snow tomorrow, but I think it will make me feel that this job was completed.

Hope you're having a great Saturday!

Bundle of Joy!

Are you looking for the right way to let everyone know the BIG news about your new little addition to the family? The absolutely most popular gift is our Big Bro/Big Sis tees.

Also, this is a great way for the Big Brother or Sister to be a part of the new baby celebration and they can proudly show off their newly acquired status.

These also make a fun baby shower gift. You can find these designs at Patty's Collection or you can also design your own!

We have been busy making baby gifts.  Lots of Big Sisters and Big Brothers out there!

Nautical Themed Room

We had so much fun putting together Ben's room when he was four.

Our family room in our previous home had Nautical theme and we had decorated it with things we bought in North Carolina.  We remodeled the room and saved everything not knowing that one day we would be using it for our son's room.

He's now six and when we moved to our new home we painted the room to match his old room and it was so easy to put back together.  The last thing that went on the wall was his sailboat which I did yesterday.

We got his bedding from Pottery Barn
This is Ben when he was almost four and the first time he saw his room ready!
Here it is... the sailboat that I was able to put on the wall!
I found this fabric at Joann's and made the curtains for his room
Love these lighthouses that we got in North Carolina
One more thing that I'd like to get....
a wooden boat steering wheel. Maybe I can find one on eBay

I think that nautical themed rooms are classic and will never go out of style. At least, I don't think we'll need to redo his room for a while!

100th Day of School Ideas

Tomorrow Ben's school is celebrating 100 Days of School. His assignment is to bring 100 of the same item that can fit in a brown bag.  This is what he'll bring to school:
100 Glass Pebbles

I asked him to give me more ideas of what else he could have brought and these were his options, including plastic snow flakes (since it was snowing yesterday):

Have your kids had their 100th Day of School?

Simple Solutions ~ Hall Closet

This past weekend, I finally conquered a major task on my to-do list and organized our hall closet. Now it's all done! My kids can actually open the door, find their gloves and hats all on their own. We no longer have to search for items thrown on the floor.

This has made it so much easier, especially on those days when we are running out the door, we can now find what we need and quick. No more bickering about keeping warm.

Each one of us now has his/ her own pocket for hats and gloves
I bought a shoe organizer, moved the wooden hooks to the top of the door
and added more hooks for the scarves inside the closet
This is what the closet looked like before...
gloves, hats, everything was thrown on the floor
Now this feels so much better!

Once the weather gets warmer, I am planning to store everything from the door and replace it with summer hats, suntan lotion, or anything that we may need handy for sunny days like today!

Handmade Valentine's Day Treats

I very much enjoy making projects with my kids.  The occasion this time, Valentine's Day.  We wanted to make some fun treats to give to their friends, so I created these bag toppers.
All treats for Ben's class are finished. Next, Emma's
I printed the bag toppers on cardstock, bought some candy and mini cellophane bags,
used a paper cutter and a stapler
Ben is helping and is Emma eating the treats :)

This is the template that I used for the bag toppers, I created a blank PDF version for anyone to download and print on card stock.

These are also great to fill with small prizes if you are trying to steer away from the sweets.

Gourmet ~ Valentine's Day Dessert

I am going to attempt to make this dessert with my children for Valentine's Day.  It seems easy to prepare and you can start the day before and finish on Valentine's Day.  I found this on Gourmet.

Strawberry Panna Cottas with Strawberry Compote

Serves 6
Active Time: 25 min.
Start to Finish: 8 1/4 hr (includes chilling)

For Panna Cotta
3 cups sliced strawberries (1 lb)
1 3/4 cups well-shaken low-fat buttermilk
6 tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin, from less than 2 (1/4-oz) envelopes
1/4 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream

For Compote
2 1/2 cups strawberries (preferably small; 3/4 lb), trimmed
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
2 teaspoons superfine granulated sugar

Special Equipment:
6 (6-oz) stainless-steel or ceramic molds

Make Panna Cottas:
Blend strawberries, buttermilk, and sugar in a blender until very smooth, then pour through a very fine sieve into a medium bowl, pressing hard on solids. Discard solids.
Sprinkle gelatin over milk in a small bowl and let stand 1 minute to soften.
Bring cream to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and add gelatin mixture, stirring until dissolved.
Whisk cream mixture into strawberry purée and pour into molds. Chill molds, covered, until firm, at least 8 hours.
To unmold, dip molds in a small bowl of hot water 2 or 3 seconds, then invert panna cottas onto dessert plates and remove molds. Let stand at room temperature 20 minutes to soften slightly.

Make Compote While Panna Cotta Stand:
Halve strawberries lengthwise if small or quarter if larger. Whisk together orange juice and superfine sugar in a bowl until sugar is dissolved and add strawberries, tossing to coat.
Serve panna cottas with compote.

Cook's Note: Panna cottas can be chilled in molds, covered, up to 2 days.

Again, we are going to attempt to make it :)

Have a great Friday!

Top Baby Names for 2012

What do you think the top baby names will be for 2012?

I love getting orders for babies and checking out all the cute names.

Everyone has an opinion on baby names, especially when the time comes to share the names you love.  We didn't share the names of our kids until they were born.  It was easier that way as we didn't want to be swayed by the opinion of others.

Here are some of the most recent Patty's Collection's burp clothes that I made and all these names are just too cute!
